Sci-fi Dark Souls-like, The Surge, Coming in May

Just in case early 2017 still isn’t busy enough for you, Deck13’s The Surge is arriving in May.

From Lords of the Fallen developer, The Surge is a sci-fi take on the Dark Souls-like formula. And, until Nioh releases next month, Deck13 are the developer that have probably come the closest to taking on FromSofware successfully.

A new cinematic trailer also gives some details on what to expect from The Surge‘s storyline. It’s all as you’d expect; mysterious corporations, creeping monologues, things going badly. Of course, if you’re more of a gameplay person, plenty of videos have been released.

Past ‘May 2017’, Deck13 don’t give anymore detail on the precise release date – so it hopefully won’t be the same day as Prey. Many people’s excitement for this will certainly be based off their opinion of Lords of the Fallen. Some thought it was a clucky mess. Others thought it was the best Souls-like out there.

Whatever your opinion, The Surge is looking to stand out more on its own merits. A pretty unique setting, faster gameplay and – hopefully – just a more improved game overall. Praise the Surge, indeed.

“Freshly recruited as an augmented worker, Warren’s first day coincides with a catastrophic event deep inside CREO, during the routine surgical operation meant to graft, through flesh and bone, the exo-suit required for the company’s employees. This disastrous event marks the first in a series of brutal events, turning this first day at CREO into a hellish nightmare of robots gone haywire, crazed employees with fried cranial implants, and artificial intelligence all wanting Warren dead.”
