Why? Just Cause.
No, really, I cannot think of a single reason why Just Cause should become a movie. Square Enix and Hollywood executives, however, think it should – so who am I to argue? The news comes only a week after another Square Enix franchise was announced to be getting a film adaption, Sleeping Dogs.
The film will star the protagonist of the games, Rico Rodriguez, as he faces a crisis of conscience while on a mission for the Agency. No other plot details are known – and Just Cause is hardly known for it – but the screenplay will be created by John Collee – known for 2016’s The Legend of Tarzan, Happy Feet as well as Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.
Meanwhile, the flick will be directed Brad Peyton – perhaps most widely known for his disaster movie, San Andreas. The role of Rico will be picked up by, surprisingly, Jason Momoa. Momoa became widely known for his role as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones and is set to star as Aquaman in the upcoming Justice League films.
Like Sleeping Dogs, I wouldn’t expect this one for a while – if you are expecting it at all. With filming still seeming far off, a late 2018 release date seems reasonable. Are you looking forward to it? Or, do you just want Hollywood to stop?
