After last month’s leak and early announcement of Middle-earth: Shadow of War, we’ve all been eagerly anticipating today’s gameplay reveal. And what a reveal it is.
Developer Monolith Productions have released 16 minutes of gameplay from the sequel to 2014’s surprise hit. It’s as bombastic as you’d expect: mid-air, slow-motion bow attacks, fiery handaxes, dragon riding and lots of displeased orcs. Admittedly, however, the demo does look quite scripted. Talion can’t pull of that many special insta-kills, right?
All in all, Shadow of War is looking to be everything fans wanted from a sequel to Shadow of Mordor. More orcs, more enemies and more ways to kill said orcs and enemies. Much – if not most – of the innovation will come from the nemesis system – which Monolith promise is highly improved from that of the original.
The Nemesis System, which before just affected orc bosses, now affects everything from enemy fortresses, allies as well as giving orcs themselves a much more diverse and terrifying background. We’ll learn more as new information and trailers begin to roll in.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War is set to release for PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4 on August 22 in North America and August 25 in Europe.
