Xbox One Gamers Can Now Grapple With Guacamelee! 2

Released last August for PS4 and PC, Guacamelee! 2 is a fabulous follow up to DrinkBox Studios’ 2013 Mexican themed Metroidvania hit.
We reviewed it at launch and awarded it a spicy 9/10, stating that it “offers more of the same combat-laden, platforming action as its predecessor, but it’s just better.” And it really is better, in every single way possible.
Because keeping a great game limited to just two formats is criminal, Guacamelee! 2 launched on Switch in December to coincide with the release of the first piece of DLC for the game. And now, it’s the Xbox One’s turn to have some Guacamelee! 2 love. The Xbox One version of Guacamelee! 2 is available right now for £16.74/$19.99, and not only is it Xbox One X enhanced, but it’s also a Play Anywhere title too. That means once you buy it via the Xbox or Windows 10 store, you own it on both Xbox One and PC, with your progress being shared between them both.
Having now played them both, I can confidently state that there’s no noticeable differences between the PS4 version of Guacamelee! 2 played on a PS4 Pro, and the Xbox One version played on an Xbox One X. Both output the game at 4K, resulting in crisp, clean visuals that make your screen pretty much a window to a surreal 2D world. And there’s just so much colour on display that anyone who has a HDR display might just start to feel all tingly.

So, if you haven’t yet played Guacamelee! 2 – in which case what’s wrong with you? – maybe consider picking it up on Xbox One if that’s your format of choice. If not, pick it up on another format, as it’s pretty much available on them all now. Guacamelee! 2 is one of the best Metroidvanias currently available, being not only a blast to play, but also genuinely funny. It even has four-player local co-op if that’s your thing. Just get it bought and play it until the early hours of the morning. Go on, you know you Juan to.
