When you arrive on your new island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you’re provided a tent. Great, thanks Tom Nook. But how do you build a house?
The first rule of Animal Crossing is: don’t worry about anything. Everything comes in its own time. The ability to build a house in Animal Crossing: New Horizons comes very early on in the game, but unfortunately you’ll have to put up with a couple of nights in your tent first.
After you’ve paid off your first debt to Tom Nook – your airfare to the island in Nook Miles – you’ll then be able to talk to him and take out a new loan. That second loan is for a house. Be warned, though, it’s much bigger than the first: 98,000 Bells. Yikes!
Once you’ve spoken to Tom Nook and undertaken the loan, work will begin on your house, and it’ll be available for you the next day. Remember that Animal Crossing time works in real time, so you’ll need to wait an actual day to see your house.
The first house you build in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is fairly modest: it’s a pretty brick building with just one small room. Never fear, though; Tom Nook will be ready to offer you new loans once you’re done paying off the last one to expand it into a beautiful dwelling.
