Today, EA has officially unveiled Star Wars: Squadrons, a first-person space dogfighting experience coming to PC, consoles and VR this October.
After it was leaked like the plans for the Death Star, we’ve finally got got to see Star Wars: Squadrons‘ first official trailer. It’s looking fantastic – just don’t get cocky, kid.
Set after the events of Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: Squadrons features a single-player story focused around ten elite pilots; five Rebels, and five from the Alliance. The main pilot on each side will be customisable, and the story will intertwine between the two sets of pilots.
The premier trailer shows off some highly tense and dramatic dog fighting action, with the pilot of the X-Wing fighting off constant attacks from the enemy. Not much was revealed about the overarching story just yet, but there will be a gameplay reveal during EA Play Love on 18th June. With novels like the Aftermath trilogy already depicting what happened after the second Death Star was destroyed, we know that splinter groups from the former Empire formed, and the Rebels had to destroy them too.
You’ll be able to plan every battle by meeting in the briefing room; something so iconic to the Star Wars series. This implies there will be some strategy added to the 5v5 action that was promoted for both single player and multiplayer experiences.
Star Wars: Squadrons releases on October 2nd for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and VR. Interestingly, it’s priced at $39.99, perhaps indicating this isn’t a full-sized release. We’ll have more on the game following Thursday’s EA Play Live event.
