Wondering if Returnal has any co-op or multiplayer features? Here’s everything you need to know.
The short answer is no: Returnal doesn’t have any co-op or multiplayer features. It’s a strictly single-player experience. It’s sort of a shame, because we’re the first to admit that running through the biomes of Atropos with a friend in tow would be thrilling.
Sadly, that’s not a reality, and the only way to play Returnal is by yourself. But that’s no bad thing. This is a game that gets its hooks in you very easily, so you’ll soon forget that you’re alone.
If you are looking for a local co-op experience, however, it’s entirely possible to take it in turns with a friend. Pass a controller between you to complete a run each and see who can get the furthest.
In terms of online multiplayer, not all is lost. Returnal has daily challenges, which have online leaderboards. So while you can’t strictly play with other people, you can compete. In the daily challenges, you earn a score based on how many enemies you kill, how much of the area you explore, and how many pick-ups you collect. You’ll be deducted score for taking hits and missing out rooms. It’s a nice diversion that also offers a welcome way to compete with other players and aim for the highest score.
