How to Open Locks in Resident Evil Village

As you play through Resident Evil Village, you’ll find yourself encountering all kinds of locks and locked objects.
As in nearly all Resident Evil games, locked doors in Resident Evil Village generally require you to have the correct key to open them – if a door has a crest on it, for example, it probably means you need to get a key that has the same crest on it to unlock it. Most of such keys are obtained as you progress through the game’s story, so don’t worry too much about them. When it comes to small, easy to pick locks and padlocks, however, it’s a totally different story.
Objects such as drawers and small containers that have easy to pick locks require lock picks to open them. Unfortunately, lock picks are one-time use items in Resident Evil Village, so you’ll need a lock pick for every single small, easy to pick lock you come across in the game if you want to maximise your loot. Lock picks can be found in the environment as you play – just search every nook and cranny and you should find most of them. If you preordered Resident Evil Village or have picked up a version with bonus DLC, you may also find some free lock picks waiting for you when you encounter Duke, the merchant.
When it comes to padlocks, you generally don’t need to worry about keys or lock picks. You can simply shoot them to open them, or, even better, slash at them with your knife. The lock will break, and the gate – or whatever else they were keeping shut – will be opened.
