Forget Stilwater and Steelport, in the Saints Row reboot Santa Ilaria is your new playground.
Santa Ilaria, a city in the southwestern USA is the backdrop for the new Saints Row reboot and as a recently released video shows, it’s a pretty place to get your murdertoys out. The new video comes by way of Game Informer, and while it’s not the most action packed Saints Row video, it does exactly what it says on the tin and gives us a look at this new open world.
It’s different from than the previous video which, while it technically gave us a tour of the new locale, was a little short on actual gameplay footage. And you know what? After watching this video, we’re okay with this change of scenery; sure, we’ll miss Steelport and Stilwater but we were initially worried that Santa Ilaria’s scenery would be less diverse than in previous Saints Row games. But there’s plenty to see and do; there’s a commercial district, various housing areas, a lake which we’re sure to lose several cars in and more. We didn’t sport an airport but Saints Row 2 was the last time you were allowed to steal jumbo jets so we can live without one.
Sure, this is pre-alpha footage but it looks gorgeous in motion; the contrast between night and day is, in particular, pretty spectacular. We’re also curious as to whether the car crash the player walks past is static or scripted. One of the coolest things about the first Saints Row was seeing police cars belt past in pursuit of someone other than yourself.
Saints Row arrives on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC this February 25th. You can expect Volition and Deep Silver to release more information between then and now; we’ll do our best to keep you updated.
