A new YouTube video rightly points out that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s Sheikah should probably raise their standards.
The rotoscaped animation, from YouTuber and animator Goat-on-a-Stick features Breath of the Wild’s ancient Sheikah as they complete construction of a shrine, complete with complex, near-impossible-to-solve puzzles. Honest.
We won’t spoil the whole video but it suggests that the Sheikah’s idea of a complex puzzle is a little.. basic. If you’ve ever played Breath of the Wild you’ll know that actually solving these conundrums isn’t all that hard. In fact, a dollar-store padlock would be more effective at keeping intruders out.
Maybe the Sheikah should take a leaf out of the Umbrella Corporation’s book and start using weirdly shaped keys. Or they could make would be tomb raiders/legendary heroes find two red diamonds, then shove them into a tiger statue’s eye sockets. That’d at least give people pause for thought.
Yes, it’s just a game, and blocking players out entirely would result in a lot of snapped cartridges/deleted downloads. But if we’re ever in a medieval castle or ancient tomb and we stumble across a sealed rock door you can bet we’re going to start pulling torches and checking the walls for buttons.
You can find the rest of Goat-on-a-Stick’s videos on their YouTube channel. We’re particularly fond of “Never Underestimate Knife Galsia”, featuring Streets of Rage 2’s most relentless – and infuriating – foe.
