Genshin Impact Fan Art Contest

This Genshin Impact Contest Wants Your Work-Safe Fan Art

Are you an artistically-inclined Genshin Impact fan? Then the game’s latest fan art contest could be right up your street.

The Vigilant Yaksha” Xiao Genshin Impact Fan Art Contest is one of several contests the MMORPG’s publishers have run. And, should your entry be selected as the overall winner, you’ll get 5,000 primogens and 300 US dollars. Sure, the first is in-game currency, but there’s also actual real money involved.

As explained over on the game’s contest page, entries have to “have a high degree of completion” and have to have been created with in the last month. That absolutely makes sense, but what might seem curious is that miHoYo, the game’s publisher and developer, wants a paper trail.

They absolutely won’t consider works unless entrants “include pictures of their works-in-progress (drafts, sketches, etc.)”. However, while that might seem over-cautious and a bit cheeky, there’s a good reason for it. The company has previously revoked a fan art contest prize for reasons of plagiarism and promised to be more rigorous in future. Hence this particular entry requirement.

The prizes on offer are as follows:

  • First Prize (1 Winner): 3,000 Primogems + 500 USD
  • Second Prize (3 Winners): 1,000 Primogems + 200 USD
  • Third Prize (5 Winners): 500 Primogems + 100 USD
  • Lucky Prize (10 Winners): 20 USD worth of Merchandise Prizes

So what’s the catch? The one thing to bear in mind is that, according to the terms of entry, “you authorize HoYoverse to publish and exhibit your work on public platforms”, whether you win or not.

So, effectively, the company could use your art online and pay you nothing. That could be a dealbreaker for some but we’ve seen worse. Last year’s Billie Eilish contest, for example, had entrants giving up their copyright entirely.

If you want to enter this latest Genshin Impact fan art contest, you can find out how to do that here – the contest runs from now until January 23rd. Who knows, your work could end up on show in Paris.
