The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Has its Ganondorf

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Ganondorf

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has its Ganondorf in the shape of actor Matthew Mercer.

It’s  not clear how Tears of the Kingdom will be bringing this big bad back. But he looks to be more together than in Breath of the Wild where he was pure rage. However, we now know that actor Matthew Mercer will be voicing him.

Mercer revealed his role today though you can bet he’s been recording for the game for at least a couple of years. Aside from his general voice-acting, he’s especially well known for his role in Critical Role, a semi-improvised Dungeons and Dragons podcast.

Mercer describes it as “An immense honor that I have thrown myself into doing justice.” He’ll be voicing the English language version of the character though the Japanese version will have a different actor.

Mercer has been in a wealth of productions. He’s lent his voice to such characters as Tony Stark, Attack on Titan’s Levi Ackerman and even Leon Kennedy. He’s not the current game Leon, but he’s voiced Sassy Leon in all the CGI Resident Evil movies. That includes the upcoming Death Island.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom arrives on Nintendo Switch this May 12 and, if you’re in the UK, you can get it for £15 off.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
