How to Get Rupees in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Tears of the Kingdom Skewer

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Link can’t just whack a bush and have Rupees fly out. So, here’s how to get money in this Breath of the Wild sequel.

No, we’re not kidding – some Legend of Zelda games, particularly the older ones, would let you slash away at bushes, pots and more, producing Rupees. But if you need currency in Tears of the Kingdom you’ll have to be more creative.

The simplest way to make money is to sell anything you can get your hands on – food, gems and more. Pick it all up and then go to a merchant, either in a town, a stables, on the road, anywhere.

Next, sell the items to the merchant and you’ll make some cash. Hurrah! Easy money! Well, it sort of is. Typically, the items you can pick up end up selling for low prices. But there’s something sneaky you can do to make more cash.

You can cook up food (check out our guide here) and then sell the meal. You’ll find that some combinations of ingredients go for more money than the ingredients individually. For example, try mixing these ingredients:

  • 1 x Mighty Carp
  • 4 x Stamella Shrooms

Sold separately, those will go for 30 Rupees. But cooked together, as a Fish and Mushroom Skewer, you’ll get around 54 Rupees for them. And that’s how to get Rupees in Tears of the Kingdom.

Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
