Want a happy, go lucky colony management game? This is not it. But Frostpunk is a brilliant, brutal survival strategy game set in a Snowpiercer-style post ice-age world and it’s an absolute steal at £10/$12 for the PC Game of the Year Edition.
Frostpunk’s premise is, as in Snowpiercer (where are you, Season 4?), is that the world has been plunged into a new ice age. It’s your job to safeguard the remaining survivors and make some horrible decisions. This is a game where child labour is an option, but if it’s that or your populace freezing to death, what would you do?
We reviewed the original pre-DLC version, remarking that “Frostpunk‘s bleak winter wonderland will keep you hooked, turning you into a horrible, horrible person in the process.”
And now, thanks to GOG’s sale, you can get the GOTY edition for this knock-down price. The Game of the Year Edition includes four pieces of DLC, as follows. The Rifts, The Last Autumn, and On the Edge all build on what is already a superb game. Or if you’d prefer the still-excellent vanilla game, it’s just $5.99/£5.00.
Be warned, this is not a game for the faint-of-heart. You’ll fail more than once and the cost of your failure could be the whole human race. Once you’ve played Frostpunk, you won’t be quite so quick to boo Snowpiercer’s Jennifer Connelly character. Let’s face it, she wasn’t the nicest person throughout Season 1.
The offer lasts until the end of the 14th of November so you’ve got just a few days to snap up this frosty deal.
