Doom’s 2016 remake is less than £2 on Steam, just in time for Doom: The Dark Ages

Doom: The Dark Ages is just around the corner but if you’ve yet to play 2016’s Doom remake, now’s your chance. id Software’s chaotic, gory demon slaying FPS is the cheapest it’s ever been on Steam, an absurd £1.59/$1.99.
It’s also got more in common with the upcoming Doom: The Dark Ages than Doom: Eternal, because it’s all about the slaughter. While sequel Doom: Eternal was still hugely successful, not everyone was on board with its jumping sections. I didn’t hate them, but they still felt a little out of place in a game that, up to that point, had kept your marine grounded.
Doom: The Dark Ages does away with those sections, and they’re completely absent from 2016’s Doom. What is critical, when playing the Doom remake, is that you maintain a sense of momentum. Stay still and there’s every chance you’ll be horribly, horribly murdered.
Doom also dials the gore up to 11, making it more on par with the Brutal Doom mod for the original game. Shooting enemies is a blast, but getting up close and indulging in a little rip and tear is even more satisfying. In our Doom review, we awarded it a massive 10/10 and called it “pure adrenaline-fuelled fun backed by a rocking metal soundtrack that just pushes you on and on, and it’ll keep you gripped until its thrilling finale.”
Another neat touch is that Doom, unlike Doom Eternal, includes a built-in SnapMap map editor where you can create and test your own maps. The one snag is that the multiplayer element is reportedly dead, but you might get lucky and find the odd person wandering about. And since this is a 2016 game, your PC should be able to handle it.
So if you’ve yet to experience the joy of Doom, head over to Steam and grab it now. This deal, which is part of the Bethesda Spring Sale, runs from now until March 20th. Doom Eternal is also 75% off and when you’re done with all that mayhem, Doom: The Dark Ages releases this May 15 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
