Chill open-world game Caravan SandWitch is free on the Epic Games Store

In our Caravan SandWitch review, we called it “absolutely joyous”, awarding it an amazing 9/10. Now, thanks to the Epic Games Store’s weekly giveaway, you can get this relaxing open-world game absolutely free.

Caravan SandWitch sees you roaming the ruined planet of Cigalo in search of your sister whom you haven’t seen in six years. Why? Because she’s considered dead and, while it all sounds a bit Silent Hill 2, when she seemingly sends a signal from the planet, it’s up to you to track her down, on foot and in your trusty van.

You’ll explore the open world, upgrading it to negotiate the various obstacles you encounter. You can also just go sightseeing, which is a delight in itself. It helps that the art is utterly gorgeous, and that there are so many diverse locations to explore, including some slightly worrying wrecks.

Kim remarked in her review, “You’re kept intrigued about the world around you, drip-fed just enough information to keep you pressing on.” There’s a certain Metroidvania element at play, but on the whole it’s a very chill affair, taking in some gorgeous sights as you seek to uncover the mystery.

So if you’re ready for a relaxing sci-fi road trip, you should head over to the Epic Games Store and claim Caravan SandWitch. It’s available from the Epic Games Store from now until 4:00 GMT on August 20th, at which point it switches to next week’s freebie, narrative card game Cardpocalypse.
