My god, upcoming platformer The Eternal Life of Goldman looks INCREDIBLE

It’s not often that a game’s art style absolutely takes my breath away. And in the case of The Eternal Life of Goldman, it’s not necessarily that it’s pushing the boundaries of what is possible. It’s just how beautiful it is. This upcoming platforming adventure has been completely drawn by hand, and it’s looking absolutely phenomenal.

You can check out some of the details that are going into The Eternal Life of Goldman’s production in the video below. It’s completely hand drawn, with animations being drawn frame-by-frame. No CGI or AI generation has been used here, according to the video. Everything has been brought to life by (extremely) talented animators, and the result is something that looks something rather special.

“Years of work” have gone into the game, according to its official Steam page, and the team have worked hard to recapture the magic you felt as a child when “you first saw your first 16-bit platformer and couldn’t believe your eyes”.

Of course, the proof is going to be in the gameplay, but it’s safe to say we’re very excited to get our hands on this adventure game. Players will take on the role of Goldman, an old man who walks with a cane. Not your typical protagonist, but that’s part of the unusual charm of The Eternal Life of Goldman. You’ll explore a world that’s steeped in myth and legend, taking on great beasts and solving puzzles as you go.

It’s designed to be challenging, and players will be required to be precise in their actions. Exploration will be key, and a sense of discovery has been hard-baked into the game. Like any good metroidvania, you’ll gain new abilities as you explore.

It’s not that unusual for a game to be hand drawn, of course. Many are, particularly indie games in the metroidvania/platforming genres. But few pack in quite this level of detail. And what’s particularly surprising is that The Eternal Life of Goldman is coming from Weappy Studio, previously known for This is the Police and its sequel. This is a huge step forward in terms of visual appeal, and we’ve got to applaud the developer in stepping outside of its comfort zone to bring something like The Eternal Life of Goldman to life.

The bad news? There’s no release date for The Eternal Life of Goldman just yet, but it’s safe to say it’s firmly on our radars. We’ll be sharing any news of a release date, but we’re not expecting it any time soon. When it does release, it’ll be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
