The acclaimed puzzle game The Witness from Jonathan Blow and Thekla, Inc. is coming to Xbox One on September 13. Thekla are aiming for the September 13 release date but it isn’t definite. The Witness released earlier this year to much praise – including from us – and takes place on a mysterious island where you must solve line puzzles to advance and takes inspiration from Myst.

The rather controversial Jonathan Blow also said that he hopes to be bringing the game to iOS. There is no set release date yet as Thekla, Inc. need to work on the movement and graphics; “It’s such a lower-end platform and we have to redo a ton of stuff.”

The Xbox One version of The Witness shouldn’t differ from any other platform apart from some minor technical areas as Blow feels “that would kind of… mess up the game.” So no platform exclusive items then. The game was originally console exclusive (that means available on PC but only one console) to PS4 for a period of time. Blow said the reason for this was that he was invited to a Sony conference before the Playstation 4’s release allowing him to see the specs of the machine. No such summit was held by Microsoft and Blow couldn’t develop for the console.

The Witness should release for Xbox One on September 13. The price is currently unknown but will presumably be £29.99 – similar to the PC and PS4 release.

Ruaraidh - pronounced Roo-Ree - is a Scottish gamer with the name and games to prove it. He enjoys mostly everything, unless it involves exercise, and much prefers to run around inside a good, open-world RPG, being chased across the lands by a horde of monsters after his sweet loot. When he has made his escape, he will often return to the real world to continue playing anything with a good story - indie or otherwise.
