Meet Overwatch’s New Hero, Orisa
Blizzard have announced Overwatch’s 24th hero, Orisa, already playable on the PTR.
Blizzard were tempting us with images and in-world news stories again much like they did for Sombra. Orisa was adapted from an updated Omnic war machine by young Efi Oladele – who we saw leading up to Orisa’s announcement. Orisa will be a tank-class character, more effective at range than the others. Jeff Kaplan went into further detail on her story and abilities in a developer update.
Orisa will have a decent range on her arm rifle, The Fusion Driver – a projectile based machine gun. Its alternate fire ability pulses out, allowing Orisa to pull enemies highlighted toward herself – Jeff describes it working like Zarya’s Graviton Surge. Another ability is Fortify which makes her tougher and prevents any crowd control effects against her. She can also put out a protective barrier similar to Reinhardt and Winston’s shield, but can place it where she targets, giving her more control of where she can assist allies or herself.
Finally her Ultimate ability, The Supercharger, gives allies in line of sight a damage increase – much like Mercy’s alternate fire. The Supercharger can be destroyed by the enemy though, so where it’s placed will be crucial to optimal use.
It’s nice to see another tank hero as it’s a role I always struggle to pick anyone outside of Roadhog. Orisa is already currently available on Overwatch’s PTR on PC.
