When asked at an investor call earlier today when the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront 2 would be releasing, EA CFO Blake Jorgenson confirmed it was coming “a year from now.” The title had previously been said to be releasing sometime between “April and December 2017.”
The reboot of the Battlefront series by EA, Star Wars: Battlefront, released last year to moderate reviews but massive sales of 14 million copies. The sales were ahead of expectations from EA but say they are aware and taking on criticism of the original. Jorgenson said that: “We’re working very hard on making sure that is an extremely deep and engaging offering.”
As previously confirmed, Star Wars Battlefront 2 will feature content from the new movies – no specific’s mentioned – as well as “bigger and better worlds.” So, still no news on whether the sequel will feature the single-player campaign that was intended for the original. The campaign was cut due to time issues as EA needed the game to release in time for the release of The Force Awakens movie.
Battlefront isn’t the only Star Wars title EA is working on either. Jorgenson previously said: “we’ll most likely have one Star Wars title a year for the next three to four years.” This includes the unannounced titles from Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment and Dead Space developer Visceral Games – headed up by Uncharted’s Amy Hennig.
EA also spoke at the event about Titanfall 2’s low sales figures and the future of the Titanfall franchise.
