6. Furi

Synthwave is certainly the music of choice at the moment, but Furi’s soundtrack is the only one to make it onto this particular list – and what a phenomenal one it is.

Furi’s gameplay and visuals certainly struck a chord, but it was the soundtrack, from a compilation of various artists, that perhaps made the largest impact. Amplifying both the wonderful boss fights but also (thankfully) turning the walking sections into something discernibly more.

5. Dark Souls III

It may not be anywhere near the masterpiece that Bloodborne‘s soundtrack is, but that only serves as a compliment to how good the Soulsborne series’ music really is.

The music, this time led by Yuka Kitamura, as always, doesn’t just create thrilling pieces to accompany boss fights but is an amalgamation of the lore, mood and atmosphere of the world and people of Lothric. And who didn’t well up hearing that certain piano piece during the final fight?
