4. DOOM

DOOM itself was expected by most to be, well, doomed to fail. Yet, on release day it stood tall and surpassed expectations, perhaps, most surprisingly, with its soundtrack. DOOM‘s rip-roaring, thrilling music, composed by Mick Gordon, is the perfect companion to the game’s slew of blood, guts and gore.

They say games were originally meant to be purely fun, and there’s very little more enjoyable than blasting through the corridors of Mars, stomping and shooting demons in the face while DOOM‘s soundtrack blares in the background.

3. No Man’s Sky

Whatever your opinion of the most-talked about game of 2016, I think there is little denying its sublime soundtrack. 65daysofstatic’s ‘Music for an Infinite Universe‘ is both an accompaniment and a standalone experience, and succeeds spectacularly in both.

The various soundscapes provide an enchanting background to a game that could (quite literally) create some magical moments and the mainline tracks often build into a transcendental and often euphoric climax.

Standout track: Supermoon
