Stardew Valley Multiplayer Beta and More Detailed
In an update on the Stardew Valley website a Chucklefish dev gave us the lowdown on multiplayer including how it will function, a beta test period, and its final release.
I don’t know about you but I’ve put off playing Stardew Valley for a long time waiting for multiplayer. We finally have some semi-concrete idea of when we’ll be able to farm, mine, fight, fish, forage with our friends, and even marry them. That means my farm, “Totally Legal Farm”, could be back in business!
Developer ‘tccoxon’ states: “We currently expect to be able to start a beta test at the end of the year for Steam users to help us test the game.” They expect to then have a full release in early 2018 for Windows, Mac and Linux. The Nintendo Switch will be the first of the consoles to receive the multiplayer patch; given the size of the patch they anticipate it will take a while to bring the patch to each platform.

Along with giving us an idea of when we can expect multiplayer in Stardew Valley ‘tccoxon’ detailed how it’s shaping up to work. Once you’ve started off Robin will offer to build up to three cabins on your farm, and each cabin can house a farmhand controlled by one of your friends. Don’t think that those farmhand players will be missing out because they can do almost everything the main player can; all the main player will have complete control of are decisions like when to sleep, when to start and end festivals, and whether to side with Joja.
Local multiplayer, split-screen, and PvP functionality aren’t currently planned for the multiplayer update, so if you want to play with your friends it’ll be online only – and amicable. Thankfully for Steam players there won’t be any fiddling about to make servers to play together; you can invite friends to the farm through Steam like you would with any other multiplayer game.
