There are lots of things to do in Sea of Thieves, especially if you’re looking to level up your reputation with one of the three factions in the game.
If you fancy yourself a fan trading and bartering like I am, than you might find yourself aligned with the Merchant Alliance. A noble living, to be sure – none of the barbarism of other factions to be found here. However, once you’ve chosen the voyages you want to set out on, where exactly do you find the animals to hunt for? And how the hell do you catch them? Fret not, landlubber. We’ve got you covered.
Where to Find Animals in Sea of Thieves
You’ll find plenty of pigs and chickens scattered around the islands of Sea of Thieves, but when you’re specifically looking for them they can be annoyingly difficult to find. Its best to look for animals on larger land masses, since they have more ground for them to spawn on.
If you’re wanting to find pigs in Sea of Thieves, your best bet is to pick the largest island in your immediate area and to patrol the island’s beach. Most pigs are viewable from your ship, since they don’t go too far onto land. To find chickens in Sea of Thieves, however, it can be a bit more troublesome.
Since chickens usually spawn more inland than pigs, they require more footwork. You can’t usually spot them from your ship since they’re hiding in the thicket of any island’s foliage. Below is a list of islands known to spawn chickens. Your best bet is to set sail for any one of these and head straight into the middle of the island.
- Barnacle Cay
- Cannon Cove
- Crook’s Hollow
- Marauder’s Arch
- Old Faithful Isle
- Shipwreck Bay
- Thieves’ Haven
- Twin Groves
How to Catch Animals in Sea of Thieves
So you’ve finally stumbled onto one of these tricky critters. Good job! Now, how the hell do you catch the dang thing? First things first, you have to make sure you have a cage or a coop to catch them with. It might seem obvious, but it took me quite some time to figure this out for myself.
To get one, you’ll need to speak with the Merchant Alliance vendor NPC after confirming your voyage from your ship. Once you’ve confirmed your voyage, you’ll be able to request as many cages and coops you can possibly take with you since they’re all free!
Once you’ve got your equipment, catching animals in Sea of Thieves is fairly easy. With your item of choice equipped, get close to the animal and capture it by pressing and holding the right trigger. Once done, place the animal on your ship. It’s best to put it on your main deck, so that it doesn’t drown should your ship take damage on your way back to the Merchant Alliance vendor. When you’ve returned with your bountiful catch, the vendor will reward you in coin. Make sure you return before the time runs out, however, or else all your hard work will have been for naught. (You can check your time by finding the watch in the gear wheel.)
