Are you stuck in Kingdom Come: Deliverance because you don’t know where to find the game’s quest-essential shovel?
Or have you found the shovel and can’t figure out where to use it? We’ve dug up the information to get you past this conundrum.
WARNING: If you’ve not got as far as the part of Kingdom Come: Deliverance where you return to Skalitz then you’ll find that below “How To” contains spoilers.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is, without a doubt, the finest Brian Blessed vehicle since Flash Gordon. It’s also a rather excellent RPG, Rich describing it as “pretty much the game I’ve been waiting for all my life.” But its sprawling world means that there are a few occasions where you might find yourself stuck. For example, early on in the game you’re sent back to your home village, now a ruin, to bury your murdered parents. This requires you to find a shovel (or spade) and dig in an appropriate spot which can be a little tricky if you don’t know where to look. Here’s what to do:
Where to find the shovel in Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Once you’ve entered Skalitz, you can find your parents’ corpses by walking up the hill towards the castle. You’re then told to find a shovel. Head back down the hill, back the way you came, walking towards the big puddle in the centre of town. As you walk towards it you’ll notice an alleyway on the right, between two buildings, and you should hear a dog barking.
Head down the alleyway and you’ll discover a man trying to loot a body. Whichever way the conversation goes you’ll then be able to pick up the shovel, which is just in front of the butcher’s body.
Where to dig to bury your parents
Once you’ve got the shovel, you need to bury your parents. While you’re supposed to bury them under the linden tree next to your house, you have to be standing in exactly the right place to dig.
Stand near the right hand side of your house, near the linden tree. Then, turn around and you’ll see a U shape in the mud. Step forward and stand in the U shape and you’ll then be prompted to press a button to dig.
Where to get another shovel
However, things don’t go according to plan and you wake up in the city of Rattay, minus your possessions, shovel included. While a shovel becomes less essential from this point onwards, it can be handy for digging up treasure and plundering graves. If you get enough money together, you can purchase one from the trader whose stall is next to the thatched building in the town square.
Happy digging!
