How to Build Fortifications in Battlefield 5

There’s plenty of new changes in Battlefield 5, but one of the most important ones is the addition of Fortifications.

The building, maintaining, and destroying fortifications has become a significant factor in Battlefield 5; and your ability to use them can be the difference between life and death in many circumstances. Since its a brand new addition to the series, however, it may be tough to get the hang of things early on. Here’s everything you need to know about building fortifications in Battlefield 5.

Building fortifications

In Battlefield 5, every class can build fortifications. Whether you’re as an Assault class, Medic, Recon Sniper, or Support Engineer, you can use fortifications. Though, keep in mind, the Support class does can build slightly faster than the others.

To begin building, press down on the D-Pad to equip your building tool. This will also let you see a blueprint version of whatever you’re about to build, much like how Fortnite lets you see the outline of what you’re trying to build beforehand. Keep in mind, however, that you can’t build whatever you’d like wherever you’d like, as everything you build must be in a prearranged location. Trenches, for instance, can only be dug in very specific places on the map, whereas sandbag barriers have a bit more freedom, but still cannot be placed wherever you choose.

Once you know what you want to build, you begin building by holding down the Right Trigger. You’ll then see a hammer icon surrounded by a radial wheel to show your build’s progress. Once complete, you’ll be able to take advantage of your new creation.

Even better is that since Battlefield 5 doesn’t require any resources to build, you’re free to do as you please, so long as you’re not getting killed in the process.
