Formula Fusion, the Wipeout-style racer by R8 Games, came out of Steam’s Early Access program late last week. I’ve put a fair few hours into up to now, and I have to say, I’m quite enjoying it.
The controls are fairly solid and there’s a hefty amount of content included for its humble asking price, but what really has me mesmerised are its visuals. Unlike most futuristic anti-gravity racers, Formula Fusion has a gritty, almost post-apocalyptic setting. The tracks are weathered and the buildings surrounding them look run down and on the verge of collapse. It makes for a nice change, as well as making the action feel more desperate and dirty. Mind you, that’s not to say that there aren’t any tracks that do have flourishes of colour and vibrant technology.
Give the video below a watch and see what you think. Oh, and in this race I’m using one of the slowest vehicles, by the way. Formula Fusion gets absolutely mental as you move up its five speed classes.
