12 Amazing Games We Never Quite Finished

3. Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring

Gammon: Whereas the sequels to Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring followed the story as told in the cinemas, this game followed closer to Tolkien’s original material. Each level placed you in an area from the film and gave you quests to complete, starting off with selling Bag-End to a bellend. Later on you would meet and take on the the role of different characters in this RPG, including Tom Bombadil who was absent from the films. There was great deal of exploration and a focus on story that wouldn’t appear in the hack-and-slash sequels – that are great but in a totally different way. Also one of the first thing Frodo says is “oh what a pretty bid” – that alone is worth playing.

However there is a terribly hard part of Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring that I wish that I’d included in my article about games that unintentionally freaked us out. You are escaping The Shire as Frodo, but before you step foot outside of Bag-End, you see ringwraiths outside blocking your way. That is when you have the hard task of avoiding these bastards without being caught using only a stone and your wits. If you get caught you suffer a terrifying cutscene that tells your game is over. It’s bloody hard and scary; no wonder I never finished this game.

4. Pokémon Alpha Sapphire

Becca: My two best friends in the world are die-hard Pokémon fans. I’m a filthy casual to be sure. When Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby were announced I was over the moon because Sapphire was the first Pokémon game I ever completed as a kid. I used to sneak into my sister’s room when she went to school and play it on her Gameboy Advance. She rarely touched the thing so thankfully she never found out. Unless she reads this. Oh crap..sorry sis!

When I got Alpha Sapphire on my 3DS I played it for about two hours straight and was completely in love. Then, I got stuck and had to ask my best friend for help. She got me unstuck and I again played for a few hours. A week later I played for 30 minutes. A week after that ten minutes and eventually I just stopped. I have no idea why, I have no explanation but eventually, when I went to buy my PS4, I sold Alpha Sapphire to Gamestop and have regretted it almost every day since. Baby, come back. You can blame it all on me.
