Five Games We Want to See Turned Into Movies From PlayStation Productions

PlayStation Games We Want Movies Of

Announced earlier this week, PlayStation Productions is a new film production studio from Sony, created to focus solely on turning video games into movies.

With so many great first party games in its back catalogue, Sony has a lot of potential movies to make. And with Sony already being a big name in film, let’s hope that at least some of PlayStation Productions’ output is strong. As we all know, good video game movies are a rarity.

Of course, all this has got us thinking: what PlayStation games would we most like to see turned into movies? There is a lot to choose from, but we’ve picked out five potential games-turned-movies that we’d love to see. Read on.

The Last of Us

The Last of Us includes so many memorable moments, and may well tell the greatest story any game has ever told. It certainly features some highly engaging characters who fully develop throughout the story. It feels like the perfect game to be adapted.

Sony previously announced that a Last of Us movie was in the works, but we’ve heard nothing new for a long time. Perhaps the creation of PlayStation Productions means that The Last of Us‘ production will be taken back in-house. Expectations are high for a film adaptation of one of the most successful games of all time, and having a production team more focused on gaming could help the adaption meet everyone’s expectations.

Uncharted

The action-packed Uncharted series seems like a perfect fit for the action movie genre. Nathan Drake’s witty personality, his fearlessness and likability all make him the perfect action hero too. An Uncharted movie could be an absolute blockbuster.

Sony has also confirmed that an Uncharted game is already in the works, but with a recent change of director, perhaps the development team has struggled to transfer the feel of the game onto the big screen? It makes sense that PlayStation Productions would be involved in this, and a game studio’s influence will hopefully help make the Uncharted move the success it should be.

Jak and Daxter

Despite not having any new releases for 10 years, the Jak and Daxter series is still one of the best Naughty Dog games ever developed. Starting as a very fun platformer with Jak and Daxter, and then turning into an open world action/adventure in the sequels, it’s a series that is in dire need of a reintroduction.

Creating a Jak and Daxter movie feels like a great way to remind people of how brilliant the series was, and also get newer audiences into the franchise. With Daxter’s slapstick humour he could become a children’s favourite in no time, and there’s enough seriousness with Jak to keep older audiences interested too. The Jak and Daxter series is more than deserving of a big screen adaptation.

God of War

The God of War series has been a staple of success for Sony for years now. But with 2018’s God of War came a different side of Kratos: one that is perfect for a film adaptation. His bond with Atreus was so well written, and helped show a more vulnerable side to Kratos, along with developing a more well rounded protagonist.

The franchise has always been great, but the most recent God of War shows just how well the characters can be written, and hopefully, with the help of PlayStation Productions, this can also be transferred into a God of War movie.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn tells an absolutely captivating story of Aloy and her search for self, purpose, and her mother. Her character development is brilliant, and she is a constantly likeable and endearing character. Her setting is also incredible, and would look dazzling on a big screen.

It’s also a highly unique story, but one that could resonate in today’s world of science fiction. There are some incredible machines, and these could be crafted so well for a movie. Imagine first seeing a Tallneck; it could be as iconic as first seeing a Brachiosaurus in Jurassic Park.

With the mixture of a fantastic setting, brilliant story, and iconic female lead, Horizon Zero Dawn could be the most successful PlayStation Production.
