Who could forget the legendary warthog run; desperately powering your way over bridges and jetting off ramps to the dizzying array of explosions and gunfire?
Halo 3‘s video game soundtrack is memorable throughout, but One Final Effort is jaw-droppingly epic and facilitates one of the best end game sequences I can remember.
5. “Finally a Tomorrow” – Gears of War 3Â
The Gears of War trilogy – I refuse to accept Judgement‘s existence – was one of the first stories in gaming that I’ve ever really been emotionally invested in. The gameplay was brutal and effortlessly smooth, but the characters really set the franchise apart.
This song comes at a very emotional time, sitting in the Xbox 360 party with some of my oldest friends, having finally drawn the trilogy to a close. It was a moment filled with disbelief, triumph and a tinge of sadness. We’d been through a hell of a ride, and were sitting there in silence for a very long time once the song had finished. Both in memoriam of the characters but also in the game itself – we knew we’d played through something very special.
