Top 10 Memorable Video Game Soundtracks

4. “Gehrman, The First Hunter” – Bloodborne

Having battled my way through the nightmare, I didn’t realise I’d be facing up to a fight with a very familiar face. I remember the way he slowly rose from his wheelchair, brandished his scythe and unwillingly decided to fight. Little did I know he was trying to do me a favour at the time.

The track creates a moving and enchanting atmosphere to an unforgettable boss sequence, that lingers in my mind as a real testament to the game’s combat mechanics. It requires everything: patience, stamina, awareness, and an unparalleled level of concentration. What makes this fight so memorable is the fact that it’s not a beast you’re fighting, it’s another hunter – The First Hunter.

3. “Welcome to Rapture” – Bioshock

“Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? No, says the man in Washington, it belongs to the poor. No, says the man the Vatican, it belongs to god. No says the man in Moscow, it belongs to everyone…I rejected those answers.”

“Instead I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose Rapture.”

Now this opening sequence has to be one of the greatest in video game history; I remember inching closer to my screen, jaw slowly clenching in anticipation as I frantically waded my way to the lighthouse. As I descended further and further into the ocean’s jaws and weaved my way towards Rapture, I was enchanted and unsettled. The track imparts an element of mystery and a distinct sense of tragedy, I knew I’d find out what horrific sequence of events led to its demise… I didn’t have a choice.

I’ve included the entire intro sequence with the song emerging around midway through. Enjoy one of the most memorable video game soundtracks you’ll ever hear.
