The 10 Games From E3 2017 That We’re Most Excited For

2. Ori and the Will of the Wisps

We loved Ori and the Blind Forest when it released on PC and Xbox One back in 2015. Rich reviewed the first game, saying, “It’s quite amazing to consider that Ori and the Blind Forest is independent developer Moon Studio’s first game, as the level of visual storytelling on display is unrivalled within the industry”. Now that Moon Studios has that experience under its belt, imagine what it can come up with?

The trailer for Ori and the Will of the Wisps didn’t give a great deal of detail about the game, apart from the fact that it’s aiming to hit us right in the heartstrings once again. Apparently at the E3 conference, Microsoft was handing out Ori-themed tissue packets, because, you know, the first one had a habit of making our eyes spontaneously spring a leak.

There’s no release date for Ori and the Will of the Wisps just yet, nor have we seen any actual gameplay, but from the teaser it looks as if it may follow on from where the last one left us, so we’re expecting a lot more tight, metroidvania-style action set within those gorgeous visuals.

1. Beyond Good and Evil 2

Okay, we’ve had a lot of Ubisoft pop up in this list, but what can we say? They put together a bloody good conference. And there’s no way we could miss this one out. A sequel to the cult favourite released in 2002, the reveal of Beyond Good and Evil 2 literally blew our socks off. Set before the events of the first game, it looks like it will be a darker, more mature experience – but one that we really can’t wait to get into.

Unfortunately, all we saw at Ubisoft’s E3 conference was a cinematic trailer, so we’re yet to get a glimpse of what gameplay might look like, but what we’ve seen is more than enough to get us incredibly excited – especially when you consider just how much passion Michel Ancel, the game’s lead, has poured into the project. In fact, he was so excited to be announcing the game that he was struggling to hold back tears during the press conference – and that’s a kind of dedication that’s rarely seen in AAA games development. We’re hyped.
