More good stuff on PS Plus Extra
1. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

There have been a lot of Assassin’s Creed games over the year, and we think Valhalla might just be the best of them all. Well, it certainly is if you’re fascinated by Norse culture and viking mythology. There’s a lot of game to sink your teeth into: it’s one of the biggest Assassin’s Creed games, and you’ll likely still be trekking through the world after 100 hours.
If that doesn’t put you off, though, Eivor’s tale of coming to England and forming allegiances with neighbouring towns (and warring with others) is one not to be missed.

2. The Plucky Squire

If you like platforming and adventure games, you simply need to play The Plucky Squire. This very clever game combines 2D and 3D gaming by putting you in charge of a character who can move in and out of a magical story book. The result is a gorgeous, innovative game that’s an absolute joy to play.
Its colourful visuals means this one will appear to kids, too, although it’s something that absolutely anyone can play. Along with platforming, you’ll also spend your time completing numerous puzzles: there’s nothing too tricky here, but they will keep your brain engaged as you play.

3. Tales of Kenzera: ZAU

When we reviewed Tales of Kenzera: ZAU back in 2024, we described it as a “metroidvania with heart”. It’s the perfect three-word description, actually. It’s from a small team (one founded by actor Abubakar Salim) and the work that has gone into bringing Kenzera to alive is simply incredible. It looks beautiful, it’s a joy to play, and its story will stick with you long after you’ve stopped playing.
Tales of Kenzera: ZAU centres around one man’s grief, but that doesn’t mean it’s a sad, depressing story. Quite the opposite, actually: it’s an uplifting journey, filled with trials and tribulations that need to be overcome. While it doesn’t do anything particularly noteworthy to move the metroidvania genre forward, what is here is done exceptionally well, and it’s absolutely worth playing if you’re a fan of the genre.

4. Dave the Diver

You won’t have played anything quite like Dave the Diver before. We’re not sure you ever will, actually: games like this don’t come along very often, and Dave the Diver is so unique that it would be hard to replicate. It’s both an ocean exploration game and a sushi restaurant simulator, but the two halves of the game are woven together so intricately. By day you’ll go diving, finding secrets and gathering fish, and by night you’ll be turning that fish into delicious sushi.
But there’s much more to Dave the Diver than that, not least a colourful cast of characters, a gripping story, and plenty of secrets to uncover as you scour the underwater world by day. Everything about this game is simply a joy, and it’s one of the best single-player games on PS Plus Extra.

5. Days Gone

Playing as gruff biker Deacon, Days Gone is set in a post-apocalyptic world a couple of years after a zombie outbreak. Separated from his wife, Deacon only cares about one thing: finding her – if she’s even alive, that is.
But survival doesn’t come easy in such a dangerous world. You’ll need to keep your wits about you, make deals with survivor camps to get by and, often, fight your way through the dead. And these aren’t any ordinary zombies: they’re fast and they move in big hordes. If you don’t mind a bit of horror in with your action adventure, Days Gone is one of the best single-player games you can play on PS Plus Extra.
6. Death Stranding Director’s Cut

Knowing it’s from the mind of Hideo Kojima, you know Death Stranding isn’t going to be your typical adventure. This dark tale set in an undisclosed future follows Sam Bridges (played by Norman Reedus), a delivery person tasked with connecting the last survivors of the world.
Accompanied by some tremendous acting from an impressive supporting cast (Mads Mikkelsen, Margaret Qualley and Léa Seydoux, to name just a few) and a truly rousing soundtrack, there really is nothing else like Death Stranding. You have to play it to appreciate it, that’s for sure.

7. Deliver Us The Moon

A much shorter, focused experience than most games on our list of best single player games on PS Plus Extra, Deliver Us The Moon is a first person sci-fi thriller that sends players into space. Five years after a mission to channel energy from the moon back to earth went awry, you, a lone astronaut, are sent back to the lunar site to figure out what went wrong.
With puzzles to solve and eerie, empty space stations to explore, there’s a lot to love here. There’s something incredible about exploring these abandoned spaces, and the story that unfolds as you go will keep you gripped for its six-or-so hour running time.

8. Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut

When we reviewed it, we called Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut the “best samurai game ever made”. It’s a sentiment we still stand by. Telling the story of Jin Sakai, this open world adventure will have you torn between maintaining your honour and hunting down the Mongol leader who invaded your homeland.
With a huge, beautiful world to explore set in 13th century Japan, there’s so much to love here. Whether you simply stick to the main story or take time to explore the intricacies of the world, there’s no denying that Ghost of Tsushima is one of the best single player games on PS Plus Extra.

9. Ghostrunner

Ghostrunner is fantastic – but it’s not for the faint of heart. This adrenaline-fuelled action game is all about speed and precision, running through environments and skilfully taking down enemies along the way. There’s no time to stop and admire its beautiful cyberpunk-style world. You’re a Ghostrunner, after all, not a Ghostwalker.
Since its release, several updates have come to the game making it more accessible, and so it’s even better than it ever was. You’ll grin as you dash and slash your way through enemies, dodging bullets in a way that makes even Neo from The Matrix look like a beginner.

10. God of War and God of War: Ragnarok

While it’s considered a reboot of the franchise by some people, 2018’s God of War doesn’t erase the horrible history of its protagonist, Kratos. After brutally ending his conflict with the Greek Gods, however, he’s now made a new life for himself. But it’s one that’s soon going to begin crumbling down.
The great thing is, you don’t need to have played the old God of War games to enjoy this new entry and its fantastic sequel. Thanks to totally revamped gameplay and a more mature story, God of War and Ragnarok are absolutely fantastic games. They’ll have you gripped from beginning to end, not only because they’re fun to play, but also because you’ll be utterly gripped to their story. Needless to say, consider both titles to be must-plays if you’re after the best single player games on PS Plus Extra.
11. Infamous Second Son and Infamous First Light

While they’re rather old now, Infamous Second Son and its standalone expansion, Infamous First Light, are still incredible single-player games. Essentially superhero games, they imbue your characters with incredible powers – and how you use those powers is up to you. In Second Son, you play as Delsin Rowe, with a fictional version of Seattle as your playground. Use fast-paced parkour moves to get around the city and fire projectiles from your hands to defend yourself against threats.
Its standalone expansion, First Light, instead casts you as Abigail “Fetch” Walker, someone else with superhuman powers. Although shorter, the story of First Light is just as compelling as Fetch goes up against the government department who thinks all people like her should be in custody.

12. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

For Marvel fans, single-player games on PS Plus Extra don’t get much better than Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Taking on the role of Star-Lord and travelling across the galaxy with the Guardians by your side, you’ve got a rather big task at hand. You see, a new threat has appeared, and the whole galaxy is in danger. Naturally, it’s down to you to save it.
This is a fun and wild romp, accompanied by a rocking 80s soundtrack – and we loved every minute of it. It’s not the longest game in the world, but it doesn’t outstay its welcome or get bogged down with unnecessary side quests — and we know that will appeal to many players.

13. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

PlayStation-exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales is one of the best single player games on PS Plus Extra. Hands down. Heck, it’s one of the best single player games ever. Swinging through New York City stopping petty crime never gets old, and engaging with the gripping narrative will keep you glued to your seat, too.
It may technically be a sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man, but if you haven’t played that yet, don’t worry: Miles Morales works just as well as a standalone game. We think it looks better and plays better in numerous ways too, thanks to it being built with PS5 in mind.

14. Returnal

There really isn’t anything else quite like Returnal, and that reason alone is enough to make it one of the best single player games on PS Plus Extra. It’s a roguelike shooter with a difference, casting players as Selene, a galactic explorer who has crash-landed on a mysterious planet. But that’s not the only problem she has to contend with: she also seems to be stuck in a time loop. Should she die, Selene simply wakes up back at the site of her crash.
It’s your job to try and break Selene free from the cycle and, ideally, get her home. But as you uncover Returnal’s secrets by making your way through its hostile and tough-as-nails world, you’ll realise that not everything is quite as it seems.
15. South Park: The Stick of Truth and South Park: The Fractured But Whole

If you like South Park, you’re going to want to play both of these hilarious games. While they’re slightly different in their execution, both The Stick of Truth and The Fractured But Whole share plenty in common, not least South Park’s trademark humour, fantastic hand-drawn visuals and much-loved cast of characters.
Both of these South Park games are RPGs with difference, and not just because they don’t take themselves seriously. They’ll have you taking control of Cartman, Kyle, Stan and Kenny as they go on fantasy-led adventures across their hometown of South Park. Packed with outrageous moments, unfiltered humour and plenty of satire, we can’t get enough.

16. Until Dawn (2015)

For horror fans, Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn is simply a must-have. One of the best single player games on PS Plus Extra, it tells the story of a group of young adults spending the night in a ski lodge atop a deserted mountain. What should be a fun night of partying and paying respects to a lost friend soon turns into a night of terror.
The choices you make will determine who lives and who dies, giving you ultimate power over the outcome of the story. In fact, it’s so good that you’re probably going to want to play through it more than once, seeing how else the story might turn out. If you’re brave enough, that is. It’s a shame the recent remake isn’t available on PS Plus, but the original still holds up very well.
17. Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection

Uncharted 4 and its standalone expansion, The Lost Legacy, are undoubtedly two of the best single-player games ever made. The narrative-driven adventure series Uncharted has gone from strength to strength, and the last chapter of Nathan Drake’s adventures is undoubtedly one of the best. Again on the hunt for lost treasure, Nate will come up against enemies to fight, puzzles to solve, and friends and family to keep happy. Being an adventurer isn’t an easy life.
Spin-off title Uncharted: The Lost Legacy leaves Nate behind, instead giving side characters Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross time to shine. A shorter, more focused story, The Lost Legacy still packs in just as much action and adventure, and a story that you won’t be able to put down. Together, they make for two of the best single player games on PS Plus Extra and Premium, and they’re available to play as The Legacy of Thieves Collection.
