10 Upcoming 2018 Movies To Look Forward To (That Aren’t in the MCU or Star Wars)

Yep. The Meg. The giant shark movie starring Jason Statham and directed by the guy who made National Treasure. There are two reasons why The Meg is on my list. First, it’s a giant friggin’ shark movie. Secondly, it’s based on one of my favourite trash novels of all time.
The basic premise is that a prehistoric great white, a megalodon, rises up from the Mariana Trench to eat lots of people, and Jonas Taylor and crew need to find a way to stop it. Personally, I wouldn’t have cast Jason Statham in the role, but he has international box office appeal and if it requires some mental gymnastics to buy him in the role of a paleontologist in order to hopefully make this movie a success to get more giant shark movies in cinemas, I’ll do what I have to.
Mortal Engines

All I really know about Mortal Engines is that it’s an adaptation of a book, the screenplay is written by the Lord of the Rings team of Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and Peter Jackson, and that it’s set in a post-apocalyptic world where cities now travel on wheels devouring smaller towns for resources.
Okay, I’m sold. The trailer looks pretty awesome, too.
